Lyft Tax Calculator
Estimate your 2026 Lyft taxes: self-employment tax, federal and state income tax, quarterly payments, and the share of each payout to save.
Lyft reports your gross fares, keeps its cut, and withholds nothing. This calculator turns that gross figure into a realistic tax bill after app-on mileage, platform fees and running costs.

Frequently asked questions
- How much tax do Lyft drivers pay in 2026?
- 15.3% self-employment tax on net profit plus federal income tax at your bracket and any state tax. After mileage and fees, most part-time drivers land at an effective 8% to 15% of gross earnings.
- Does Lyft withhold any tax?
- No. Lyft pays you as an independent contractor, so nothing is withheld and you make quarterly estimated payments yourself on April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15.
- Which Lyft forms will I get?
- A 1099-NEC for bonuses and incentives, a 1099-K for ride payments once you pass the reporting threshold, and an annual Lyft Tax Summary that lists gross receipts and the fees Lyft kept.
- Do I owe tax if Lyft is a side gig?
- Yes. Self-employment tax starts at $400 of net profit, and the income stacks on top of your W-2 wages, so it is taxed at your top bracket.
- How much should I set aside per payout?
- The percentage this calculator returns — typically 15% to 25% of gross once mileage is counted. Move it to a separate account the day each payout lands.
- Can I deduct the fees Lyft took out?
- Yes. Service fees and commissions are inside your reported gross, so deducting them on Schedule C is what stops you paying tax on money you never received.
