Frequently asked questions

What can Dashers deduct in 2026?
Business miles at $0.70 per mile, the business share of your phone plan, hot bags and insulated gear, tolls and parking, car cleaning and supplies, and the DoorDash-related portion of any subscription you use for the work.
Can I deduct mileage and gas at the same time?
No. The standard mileage rate already includes gas, repairs, insurance and depreciation. You either claim $0.70 a mile or your actual vehicle costs — never both.
Are hot bags deductible?
Yes. Insulated bags, drink carriers and phone mounts bought for dashing are ordinary and necessary business expenses, deductible in full in the year you buy them.
Do deductions lower self-employment tax too?
Yes. Schedule C deductions reduce net profit, and self-employment tax is calculated on that profit — so each dollar deducted saves both income tax and 15.3% SE tax.
What records do I need?
A mileage log with date, miles and business purpose, plus receipts or card statements for gear and supplies. Keep them for at least three years after filing.
