Grubhub 1099: How to Get Your Form and Read Every Box (2026)
Every January, Grubhub drivers start hunting for the same thing: their 1099. It's the form that tells you, and the IRS, what Grubhub paid you. But the number on it isn't what you owe tax on. Here's how to find it, read it, and get from that number to your actual profit. When you have it, plug it into the Grubhub tax calculator.
Which 1099 Grubhub sends
Grubhub pays drivers as independent contractors, so your pay is reported on Form 1099-NEC (nonemployee compensation) once you earn $600 or more in the year. If any of your payments run through a third-party payment processor, that part can show up on a 1099-K instead. Most drivers only get a 1099-NEC.
When and where to get it
Grubhub must send 1099-NEC forms by January 31. You'll usually get it electronically through the tax portal linked in the driver app or the email you used to sign up, so check that the email and mailing address on your account are current in December. If you don't see it by early February, contact driver support before you file.
What the numbers include
Box 1 shows your total pay for the year: delivery pay, and usually tips and any bonuses too. It's gross pay. Grubhub doesn't take tax out of it, so Box 4 (federal tax withheld) is almost always blank. That's why you're responsible for paying your own income tax and 15.3% self-employment tax.
Turning Box 1 into taxable profit
Report Box 1 as income on Schedule C, then subtract your business expenses. For most drivers, mileage is the biggest one. In 2026 the IRS rate is 72.5¢ a mile for January–June and 76¢ for July–December, so log your miles by date. Add phone, insulated bags, parking and tolls. What's left is the profit you're taxed on.
Example
Maria's 1099-NEC shows $22,000. She drove 6,000 business miles in the first half of 2026 and 6,500 in the second half: 6,000 × $0.725 + 6,500 × $0.76 = $9,290. Add $600 for her phone and gear, and her profit is $12,110. That's the number her taxes are based on, not $22,000.
If the form looks wrong
Compare Box 1 to your weekly pay statements in the app. If it doesn't match, ask Grubhub for a corrected 1099. Even if you earned less than $600 and got no form, you still have to report that income.
Frequently asked questions
+Does Grubhub send a 1099 if I made under $600?
Usually not, but the income is still taxable. Report it on Schedule C using your app earnings history.
+Are tips included on my Grubhub 1099?
Generally yes. Box 1 is your total pay, tips included, so don't add them a second time.
+I drive for Grubhub and DoorDash. Do I file two Schedule Cs?
Usually one. Delivery is one line of business, so add both 1099s into a single Schedule C.
